Within an hours drive of Morzine are three fantastic towns to visit, Annecy, Evian and Yvoire. All three are worth at least an afternoons exploration. Annecy is a beautiful medieval town steeped in history with cobbled side streets and canals meandering through the town. There is a huge cafe culture and plenty of shops to explore or boat rides along the lake. Yvoire, by Lake Geneva, is voted as one of the most beautiful villages in France. A perfect spot to sit and relax and enjoy the views over the lake before disappearing down its historical maze of alleyways to discover some real history. Evian, further along the lake, is of course famous for its natural spring water. It is a busier town with lots of cafes and shops to explore or maybe chance your luck at the famous casino. You can also take a boat ride from here and take in some breath taking views of the alps. The Mont Blanc massif is also short distance from Morzine..
There are several good fishing sites in the Morzine area. The lake at Montriond and Les Mines d'Or are two of the most idyllic settings to while away the hours. The river Dranse runs from Morzine to Evian, where highly sought after Geneva lake trout that returns to it's spawning ground every year can be found. This trout needs all the patience and dexterity you can muster but is well worth the effort. If you don't have a fishing licence, you can get one for a day or a holiday fortnight pass. There are also many other rivers to fish in the surrounding areas and all methods are allowed. For the specialist fly fisher this is truly an area to test your skills.
